Artificial intelligence is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. Because of this, I’ve already heard professionals asking the profound question: “Will I (my job) be replaced by AI?”

Up to this point, we have only seen minor shifts in labor directly attributable to AI. In some cases, companies have decided to hold off on hiring new software engineers. In other cases, there have been minor reductions in staff. Many of the staff levevl changes in technology in recent years were due to poor management and planning during the pandemic. Several tech companies over-hired and recently found themselves needed to level set staffing.

Organizations are largely still trying to figure out how to leverage AI as part of their strategy. Nonetheless, AI is already making an impact. The capabilities are progressing rapidly and the fear of being “replaced” is certainly understandable. However, this fear is, in part, based on two misconceptions:

  1. You don’t need to change or adapt (People don’t like change, myself included)
  2. Organizations are motivated to make wholesale replacements of labor for AI.
